Position Overview
Reporting to the VP Utility Operations, the Supervisor / Operator III is a key member of the Big White Utilities Department. This role oversees daily operations and maintenance of the resort’s Water Treatment II, Water Distribution II, Wastewater Treatment III, and Wastewater Collection I systems — ensuring compliance with Federal and Provincial regulations, guidelines, and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise, mentor, and work alongside Junior Operators to promote the safe and efficient operation of all utility systems.
- Provide leadership in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving technical and maintenance issues.
- Ensure the efficient operation of water and wastewater treatment facilities and equipment through regular inspection and performance checks.
- Monitor and adjust system operations through sampling, analysis, and process control adjustments as required.
- Support compliance with all regulatory, permit, and maintenance requirements under the direction of the VP of Utility Operations.
- Participate in the development and implementation of safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Lead emergency response efforts, including call-outs for urgent maintenance and system repairs.
- Assist in inventory control and procurement of goods, materials, and equipment related to the utility systems.
- Support planning and implementation of capital improvement and maintenance projects.
- Train and orient new employees in safe work practices, operational procedures, and emergency protocols.
- Maintain accurate operational and maintenance records for all systems under supervision.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Comprehensive experience in water and wastewater treatment operation, including process control and performance optimization.
- Comprehensive knowledge of water distribution infrastructure, including watermains, valves, hydrants, meters, pumping systems, pressure reducing stations and reservoirs
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor junior operators effectively.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control system operation and maintenance.
- Proficiency with SCADA systems and basic computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, and technical documents.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with a focus on team collaboration.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple assignments.
- Knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations and best practices for utility operations safety.
- Experience operating vehicles and equipment safely, including snowmobiles and light utility machinery.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, tact, and diplomacy in all interactions with staff, contractors, and the public.
Experience and Education
- Minimum 5 years of related utility or municipal operations experience.
- Certification with the EOCP in BC (or equivalent) in Water Distribution, Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, or Wastewater Collection.
- Three or more years of experience in a supervisory or lead hand role.
- Preference given to candidates with Level III Wastewater Treatment and Level II Water Treatment certification
- Completion of a Diploma or equivalent training in Water Quality, Environmental Technology, or related discipline.
- Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License.
Conditions of Employment
- 40-hour work week with variable scheduling based on operational needs (winter/summer/shoulder seasons).
- Participation in standby and on-call rotations; availability for emergency response and overtime as required.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying mountain weather and terrain conditions.
- Must hold a valid BC Driver’s License (Class 5 minimum).
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Position Overview
Under direct supervision of the Operations Manager this position performs routine tasks in the installation, repair, service and maintenance of water and wastewater system components to ensure optimum performance of the infrastructure and operations of the water supply, treatment and distribution systems and wastewater treatment and collection systems.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs basic water sampling and analysis and records results in accordance with established procedures.
- Provides support in major repair or maintenance work.
- Monitors chlorine use and changes chlorine tanks in accordance with established procedures.
- Operates the SCADA system terminal, identifies irregularities and takes corrective action.
- Performs routine physically demanding construction and maintenance work
- Operates and maintains routine equipment and vehicles
- Reads and understands routine design drawings and/or sketches
- Cleans, conducts basic repairs and maintains equipment as directed.
Qualifications
- Minimum grade 12 education, plus related experience in utility construction or in a recognized utility environment.
- BC EOCP Level 1 Certification (water treatment or water distribution or wastewater treatment)
- 1 – 2 years related experience in a treatment or distribution facility
- Basic mechanical aptitude to perform the work, and must have experience using hand-tools, power-tools, and other equipment as would be used in a utility environment.
- Basic experience operating motor vehicles, construction equipment and snowmobiles
- Basic understanding and knowledge of the type of equipment used in a utility environment.
- Basic ability to read, understand and follow routine design drawings, sketches, plans, specifications, work instructions and procedures.
- Must possess a valid BC Driver’s License
